About me
Principal Physiotherapist - Rubina Poonawalla

Here to Help!

I have extensive clinical experience in the private practice sphere, and have been blessed to have worked in three countries - India, UK and Australia for more than a decade. This has allowed me to amalgamate various assessment techniques and treatment approaches, grounded in evidence based practice. I have a postgraduate degree in Advanced Physiotherapy (Musculo-skeletal) from Kings College London, one of the top universities in the world, which was instrumental in honing my diagnostic and manual therapy skills, and in optimising treatment plans.

How I can help

At Better Me Physiotherapy, I am keen to hear your story, understand your difficulties and take a detailed note of your conditions history. From there, I will do a thorough assessment to help me understand the root of the problem and its contributing factors, so that an individualized treatment plan can be created and delivered, aimed at achieving the goals we set together.

Exercise therapy

Exercises are tailored to the individual's needs at that point of time and are an essential component to recovery and pain reduction to achieve long term benefits. They need to be progressed at regular intervals to be as effective as possible as the body quickly adapts to one level of exercise.

Strengthening exercises such as with your own body weight or with equipment that provides resistance is important, particularly after the acute stage of injury has passed. They have multiple benefits such as maintaining bone and muscle mass, maintaining optimal body weight, strengthening joints and soft tissues and even improving brain volume.

Manual Therapy

Being a hands on therapist, some manual therapeutic techniques I use ranges from a variety of

  • Joint mobilisation techniques - Useful in joint dysfunction due to disuse, trauma and overuse

  • Soft tissue mobilisation and trigger point release - to reduce pain, improve mobility, increase circulation and aid in muscle relaxation

Manual therapy has been shown to be very effective in certain conditions to manage pain and facilitate a faster recovery, especially in combination with exercises.

Back Massage

Dry Needling

Dry needling, different than traditional Eastern accupunture is helpful to manage trigger point and myofascial pain, promote recovery and can be effective in conjunction with other therapies.

Acupuncture

Taping

Taping including Kinesiotaping can help provide feedback to your soft tissues which can change the perception of pain, and provide a feeling of support.

Rigid strapping inhibits movement when required and provides a degree of protection and support.

Child Physiotherapy

GLA:D program
